Which brand and model thermometers do you find work best for cooking steaks as well as roast? I've had 2 of the maverick with the remote monitor that I like very much but with both, after about 2 months, it reads about 20-30 degrees higher than it should. Last night it must not have been over 75 degrees outside but when I turned it on, it registered a little over 100 and didn't go down. The store replaced the last one but not sure they will again. I prefer not to use the instant read as I like seeing the temp as it goes along. TIA

TIA I've got a couple Maverick wireless that I use for large roasts and turkeys, etc. I do prefer the instant read on thin items. I was just reading Consumer Reports and they gave the $30 Polder a CR Best Buy...it's the one with the wired probe....and the most accurate. I had a Polder for 5 years and it worked well until it finally just died of old age and neglect. I think I'll go back in that direction the next time I buy a thermometer. For a some what 'instant' read (8-10 sec), they gave a couple of Taylor therms a good bump. Good luck Quote from the magazine...
