My question was I was eating my steak and I noticed kind of a worm type looking thing in it, what is this a blood vessel or something? I know there are tendons in the steak but those were much thinner and whiter. This thing was the only one in my steak. The steak I had was an expensive New York strip steak.

Also when I pulled at it, it kind of just slid out of the meat. It was also thicker, rounder and longer than any of the tendons.

Yes, a blood vessel/vein. These normally occur in the Chuck and the Round, and sometimes in the Sirloin. If your NY Strip came off the end nearest the Sirloin, it is possible that is what you had.

Thanks for the answer! Do butchers usually try to get all the veins out because this is the very first time I have seen one in a steak. Understandably so I was a little surprised! I thought it actually was a worm! It was only about inch and a half and I thought it was just strange because it was whitish/brownish in color.

That particular piece of matter is abnormal in the Strip Loin. However, it should've been removed before you got it.
