Hello, Thanks for this forum, its a real treat to be able to ask a butcher some questions.
I raised 3 pigs this past season(first time), and fed them corn grain with minerals and such. the meat isn't like i thought it would be, seems a little tough. and the taste was a little off too, So my question is, what is the best thing to feed pigs for the raising period? is there a schedule that you follow, for the best tasting meat? any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. thanks bunches Kevin (Crimmy)

I only know about pigs AFTER they hit the slaughterhouse. What happens to/with them, and why, BEFORE the slaughterhouse, I have no clue at all. Sorry. I suggest you contact your local County Extension Agent or one of the Pork Council's listed at this link. www.nppc.org/state/index.htmlI will say that a lot of the time that "toughness" is how the pork is prepared and not necessarily the way it was raised. I also prefer 'corn fed' vs the others, both pigs and cattle. Good luck.
