Is there such a thing as WFPB French fried potatoes that taste good? Crispy on the outside. Light and fluffy on the inside. Its easier than you might think. Cut up potatoes into french fries as usual. Soak em in water to remove excess starch as usual. Dry em off as usual So far, so good. Now put the dried, raw fries into a large zip lock bag and squirt, spoon, or dump some mustard in with them.
Tip #1: Its better to use too much than too little. You'll get the hang of it pretty darned fast. Tip #2: Two different types of mustard are better than one but just plain ole cheapazz yellow mustard will do in a pinch.
Add yer salt free seasonings to the bag.
Good ones to consider are: Onion powder or granules Garlic powder or granules Smoked paprika or Sweet paprika or Sharp paprika Cayenne pepper (IMO this is not optional) Hot sauce Cracked black pepper Sage
Use whatever floats yer boat.
Heck, use em all.
Just remember, no salt and no oil.
Seal and shake the bag until the raw fries are evenly coated with the mustard and spice mix
Now you can either bake these in your oven at 375-400ºF for around an hour, flipping them halfway through, until they pass inspection... or... Fry them in in yer air fryer like I do. I use a Phillips and fry then at 390ºF until they look about right. Chef gets to taste test
Tip #3: don't over fill the air fryer basket. 1/2 - 3/4 full is good Tip #4: shake the basket ever 5 minutes or so Tip $5: placing the mustard and spice coated raw fries on a cooling grid placed in a jelly roll pan will mimic an air fryer. Kinda.
