Fire Cider appeared in the first edition of Rosemary Gladstar’s home study course in 1981 and has been copyrighted in her books since 1991. There was no Fire Cider recipe or formula before 1970’s, when Rosemary made it in her classroom kitchen at the California School of Herbal Studies.
I first bought this stuff ready made as a natural remedy for colds and flu. But it is pricey in stores. I drained this year's 4oz bottle, 1 tablespoon at a time, with this year's first cold of the season. This "cold" lasted 3 days. Whether or not the fire cider had anything to do with that is up for debate and not important for our purposes here. Think of Fire Cider as a spicy infused apple cider vinegar because that's what it is. And it's darned delicious--this is the point
Use fire cider in place of vinegar in recipes calling for vinegar. It goes great with steamed or raw greens. Take a shot every day for good health? Maybe. I do that but do it mostly because fire cider tastes so good.
This batch:
1 medium yellow onion roughly chopped
9 cloves garlic smashed
1 C coarsely grated horseradish root
1/2 C coarsely grated ginger root
1 T ground turmeric
1 tsp black peppercorns
2 whole cloves
2 sliced jalapenos
1 sliced habanero
1 sprig fresh rosemary
1 sprig fresh thyme
2 lemons quartered, squeezed into jar and added whole
1 orange quartered, squeezed into jar and added whole
1 qt apple cider vinegar with the mother
raw honey to taste
All ingredients to be organic
Shake daily for 6 weeks and up to 3 months (I do 6 weeks)
Strain, add honey to taste and enjoy. The solids can be used in stir fry's etc if you like spicy stuff

I can make a quart of fire cider for what 4oz of store bought costs so let's get on with it.
There are a lot of recipes out there in cyberspace so I make what I like. Always with ginger root, horseradish root, garlic and lemons. The rest is up to you.
