October means Halloween and for people like me, who never seem to grow up, nothing is sacred. With Steve's help, I smoked my first meatloaf. A 3 pound combination of ground beef, pork, and Italian sausage gently mixed along with 2 lightly beaten eggs, 2/3 cup finely crushed common crackers (what I had on hand but saltines are more common than common crackers ) 1/4 cup milk, 1/2 cup bbq sauce (I used Bone Suckin' Sauce), 1/2 tsp granulated garlic, and 1/2 tsp granulated onion Mummy's Head Meatloaf assembled with onion as teeth and eyes, home smoked thick sliced bacon for bandages, and brushed with Bone Suckin' Sauce for effect and flavor. Smoking a monster's head I began cooking this monstrosity at 325ºF but raised it to 350º when 1.75 hrs on the cooker was crossed. Freshly smoked Mummy head. Leftovers will probably be mighty fine if I can get to 'em Spooky Smoked Mummy's Head Meatloaf plated with mashers, steamed brains (I mean broccoli), and a bit of Bone Suckin' Sauce. Best meatloaf ever.
