I have heard arguments on both sides of this issue so I am not sure which is best. For a St Louis cut or just regulare spare ribs do you remove the membrane or leave it?

I have heard arguments on both sides of this issue so I am not sure which is best. For a St Louis cut or just regulare spare ribs do you remove the membrane or leave it? I always remove it. 1) for appearance 2) I don't like chewing through it and 3) the membrane is full of germs and nasty bacteria. I know cooking kills them, but it's the thought that bothers me.
