I am strongly considering buying a ceramic grill smoker and have narrowed down my choices to the largest sized BGE XL and Primo Oval XL. Both are similarly priced and both have dealers close to my home. They both appear to be about the same thickness and materials. I think they both offer an additional rack to increase cooking capacity. I like the BGE XL because it appears to have a little more grid space, according to specs and appearance. It also appears to be a little taller and larger. It looks like it might have a little more lump capacity. It is hard to tell for sure, since I can't put them side by side. I also like its hinge arrangement a little better.
I like the Primo Oval XL, because it appears to be a little more versatile with its multiple racks and firebox divider.
I plan on both grilling and slow smoking.
Between the BGE XL and Primo Oval XL... Which is better and why? For grilling? For smoking? I would appreciate your input, assuming you own one of these.

BGE is made in Mexico. Oval is made in the USA. Hinge system for the Oval allows a small woman to open the lid. The BGE may have more initial grid space, which, if you plan on grilling a lot of hamburgers, hot dogs or steaks, might be the one for you. But you CANNOT DO THIS ON THE BGEaskabutcher.proboards42.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=170Lump capacity on the Oval will allow you to slow cook for 30-40 hours without reloading. Of course, this depends on the lump charcoal and also your cooking temp. Larger and taller does not make a cooker better. Bottom line.....the Oval is more versatile. I have seen the BGE in action, but was not impressed with the squat lid/dome. Unless they have retooled it, there were lots of complaints about cooking a large chicken or turkey, because you couldn't close the lid without it touching the birds. I have owned and cooked with BGE, but have switched over completely to the three Primo's that I own. I've been cooking on ceramics since 1999. Both Primo and BGE are excellent products with excellent customer service and support. You can't go wrong with either.
