Every now and then ya just gotta do it. You are perusing the store and run across something that is so ridiculous, so against the grain of what you are used to, that you just haf'ta try it!! You know it's not going to be any good and you know that your worst effort would be better than this offering! But.....you still put it in your cart  Maybe you want to see what the other 99% of the people call "BBQ"
I first saw the package and ignored it. Further down the meat case, I was mysteriously drawn back to the pork section. I picked up the meat, gave it more than a cursory look, read all the labels, laughed and threw it back into the case. Less than five feet away the mysterious force made me do an about face, put it into my basket with the thought of "I gotta show this to someone...I can't keep this good thing to myself"
Genuine Pork Loin Backribs (aka Baby Back Ribs) in a cooking bag and ready in one hour!!! Complete with a 16% salt bath and some fake smoke
Not sure if I will cook them today or tomorrow, but you can be sure I'll give them a good review and let you know what you are missing
It's a tough job, but every now and then ya just gotta take a hit for the team ;D
And at $2.79 lb, it was hard to pass up
Alrighty, labels removed, the slit cut on top and ready to go in the oven for an hour
After an hour
Don't look TOO bad
and sliced
I was surpised that they wern't 'falling off the bone' tender, seeing as they were basically boiled ribs. Still tender, though.
Yup, tasted like boiled ribs. In fact, boiled plain ribs might've tasted better! No taste what so ever, as far as I was concerned. I've had better ribs with just smoked with salt and pepper. I did not taste the seasoning/rub that was supposed to be applied, nor did I detect a hint of the imitation smoke. I thought they might be salty because of the enhancement, but I actually had to add some salt to mine.
BDaddyBBQ said he could taste 'something' and he also thought they were over salted (but he doesn't eat salt, so yes, he would think these were salty!).
Final surmise was that these really sucked, as far as ribs go, and don't waste your hard earned money on them.
BUT......If you find them at the right price, buy some, take them out of the bag, wahs off the crap from the bag, season them with a different rub and smoke like usual on your grill.
