Just wanted to tell you about Field Roast sausages, a must try. Apple Sage and Italian are great. I've been able to avoid meat substitutes, but this one is really good. Just wanted to share ...

I've been reading about Field Roast products for quite some time, years I think, but have never seen them in my local markets. Truthfully, I'd pretty much forgotten about that company until just now so I thought I'd look for them again. I've given up on most meat replacement products as they are usually either just as high, or higher, in fat content as the regular stuff (hot dog replacements) or just plain taste bad (sausage replacements). I found a limited selection of Field Roast products and picked up the Italian. Like all meat replacement products these things aren't exactly health food but they may be a great change of pace and a quick meal. I am not looking for something that mimics the taste of an Italian sausage as much as I am looking for a product that goes well with the typical foods associated with them and, if possible, a similar texture. I will be playing with these soon. If they pair well with peppers and onions I'll be a happy guy. It would be gravy If they pair well with a nice marinara (see what I did there ). Thanks for the reminder

Field Roast Italian "sausage" with spaghetti I tried this hoping for the best but not really expecting much. Sometimes I get surprised but not this time. I didn't care for these sausage replacements but keep in mind I don't care for the overwhelming majority of transition foods. Most meat replacements taste best when grilled or fried so I fried these in a bit of Earth Balance adding even more fat the finish. That and I was afraid to try cooking these in the sauce before I knew what they were. I've ruined more than one pasta sauce that way. These Field Roast sausages have the same nasty under taste I've encountered a dozen times and the texture was not good. I can look past some of this when time is an issue which is the only reason I eat transition foods at all but I don't think I can do these sausages again. The single largest detractor of plant based living is cooking times so I tend toward simple preparations or things that work well as leftovers. IMO tofu added to pasta sauce is much better tasting. The pasta sauce was made from imported D.O.P. certified Italian San Marzano tomatoes packed in juice. Added were fresh Italian parsley, fresh basil, garlic, and sauteed mushrooms. This simple sauce is fantastic. I ate my Field Roast "sausage" but will likely throw the other three that came in the package out

Maybe in one of those NE style hot dawg buns with fried organic onions & peppers?

I'm thinking about the rolls, and onions, garlic, and peppers with these. Might work if I smoked them.
