Deli employees report meat slicers not cleaned often enough By News Desk | April 1, 2016
Managers and employees at more than half of the delis in a recent study reported the retail operations are failing to meet U.S. Food Code specifications because meat slicers are not cleaned often enough.
I have a tendency to agree with this. In all my years of shopping different grocery stores at various times of the day, I have never seen the deli breaking down a slicer for cleaning unless it was near closing time. Even at the butcher shop and deli the slicers were cleaned after the lunch rush and then at closing, which inadvertently fell into the specifications as we opened at 9:00 AM, lunch rush was over between 1 and 2 PM, and closing was at 6:00. Roughly every four hours
