Bet this would go good with BBQ An old time recipe from The Alva (Fl) United Methodist Church Cookbook 'From Our Hearts to Your Table.' ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Okra fry bread* 1 cup cornmeal 1/2 cup chopped Vidalia onion 1 cup self-rising flour 1 tablespoon clarified butter, plus more if needed 2 1/2 cups water 1 (16 ounce) bag whole okra, sliced into 1/2 inch rounds In a large bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour and salt. Whisk in water to make thinner batter. Stir in okra and onion. Over medium heat, add clarified butter to cast-iron skillet. Use a small ladle to pour batter into the skillet; pan should be hot enough to make batter sizzle. Cook until underside is brown, about 3-4 minutes. Flip and brown the other side. Repeat with additional batter, adding more butter as needed. *Changes may need to be made to adapt recipes to today's kitchens.
