For the past few years I've been trying to go 'organic' as much as I can......eggs, milk, fruit, vegetables, meats, poultry, etc. It's not just exclusive to high end "Natural Food Stores" any more, as you can buy organic at just about any supermarket or big box stores like Walmart, Target and the warehouse clubs of Sam's, Costco and BJ's. In fact, there is so much 'organic' available today, I really wonder how much of it is actually 'organic'?? Hmmmm.......
Some of it is downright expensive, i.e., meats, for example. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to spend an extra $8-10 (and more!!) for a steak that's been grown 'all natural'! I prefer the taste of All American USDA Choice corn fed Iowa beef. And that is my prerogative! If you like the 'organic' and have the money to buy it, than that is your choice, by all means. Of course, there is a niche out there for organic beef and I salute the farmers who are trying to keep the world safe from antibiotics and other additives. I know their product is not cheap to grow, but until the prices drop back some, I'm just not ready for the switch.
Let me state that I do not purchase beef or pork that has been 'enhanced', 'injected' or any other such procedures that put water, salt, 'natural' flavorings', phosphates, etc into the meat. The only exception is pork ribs, if I cannot find any natural ones at the various stores in our area.
Now, I will say one thing, 'organic' poultry is not bad at all and I kind of like the taste of real chicken and real turkey.
The milk is 'OK', it's more or less like the milk I used to drink while growing up. Back then it was called 'raw milk'.
Organic and 'all natural' eggs are now a mainstay in my refrigerator. Not sure if much taste difference from the 'regular' eggs, but I do know the color of the yolk is better.
Fruits? I'm still up in the air on these, as I've found it much cheaper to just run them through some water to rinse off all the pesticides, etc. Once the fruit is washed off, I really can't taste the difference. I know.....me bad!
Vegetables? Same as the fruits above.
Ok, ok, try as I might...and I've tried just about every thing, I cannot get into the "organic" salad mixes that flood the produce department at the store.....the 'spring' mixes, baby mustard and turnip greens, argula and argula blends, mache (whatever that is!!) and other stuff that I have no clue as to what it is. I liken all that stuff to eating my front lawn!
Starting today I'm going to go on a 'green' kick while saving some money and if the above 'greens' are going to taste like my lawn, so be it!!! I'm there
