Repeat!!! Cuban bread slathered with butter and cheap yellow mustard, Swiss cheese, pickle slices, roast pork (under the ham ) and deli ham. Yes it's on an American plate, seeing as it was created in Tampa. Some say Miami, but I'm going with Ybor City Yes, there is meaty goodness in the middle

If you can't get the Cuban bread, you can use French, Italian or hoagie rolls. I'll give you the Cuban/Miami version first. You'll need bread, butter, mustard, baked ham, roast pork, Swiss cheese and dill pickle slices. You can use any ham, but I like the smoked better. As far as the roast pork I prefer pork tenderloin or center cut loin, although shredded pork can be used in a pinch.
Slather butter and mustard on both sides of the bread, then on the bottom half start with a couple layers of ham, then the pork, top with the cheese and then the pickles. Put the top of the bread on, smooosh down with your hand and then place it into a hot buttered skillet. Now use a couple of foil lined fire bricks or a cast iron pan to put weight on the sandwich. Brown both sides and then cut diagonal. Serve and enjoy.
The Tampa version, and my favorite, is to add just one layer of salami between the pork and the ham. Rest of the sandwich is the same. You can 'fool' around with the recipe, I always do, but the two above are the authentic.
