| | Restoring a Round Kamado « Thread Started on Jul 16, 2009, 10:31am » | |
While cleaning out the garage the other day I unearthed my original old grey Primo Kamado Round that had cracked. I'm going to attempt to fix the crack with Rutland Hi-Temp Stove & Gasket Cement (rated to 2000°) and wondered if any one has used this product yet?
I've still got the original (#2) 'crack free' 2-piece firebox with fire ring (in 2 pieces ), a make shift SS sliding draft door and a BGE fire grate Just ordered a band and hinge assembly, slider top/cap and a cooking grid.
Hopefully in a week or two I can present the newly 'restored' Kamado for your perusal It will then be 'donated' to a buddy who is stuck on gas.
Thanks to a tip from a poster on the Primo forum, I took back the Rutland Cement and got some JB Weld instead.
Not many pics, but you will get the general idea.
This Round was cracked on the bottom and back, straight through the ceramic. Did a patch job on both sides with the JB Weld and let sit 24 hours after doing each the inside and the outside.

I rejoined the firering with the JB Weld as well, Good Stuff!! Getting ready to give'er the old test Put in a few handful's of lump and lit it up. got distracted and ran the temp up to 600°!!! Partially closed the vents and settled in at 350° for a couple of hours then opened both vents all the way and ran it up to 500° to burn the rest of the lump.
Passed the 'test' with flying colors and no damage

It's now at it's new home and resting in a temporary set up
